Heading tags are very important in SEO as they help to define what a page is about and which aspects are most relevant. In HTML there are six heading sizes (H1 through H6) with H1 being the biggest and most important. By using an H1 Heading tag you are stating that this is the main heading of the page. It is not uncommon to use two H1 tags on a single page if the page is broken down into two primary areas of focus. Successive Heading tags are used to highlight sub-topics.
Optimizing using Heading Tags:
When using Heading tags on your pages it is best to relate them to their generality/specificity with your H1 as your primary and most relevant Heading and drilling down in relevance using subsequent Heading tags (e.g. H2, H3, etc). Make sure that you keep your Headings concise and targeted to the specific level of relevance and that you don’t duplicate Headings across your website.
